Snowshoe cats are supposedly derived from Siamese cats, so I bet she has a lot of Siamese traits She sounds really sweet.

Thank you for the information. Siamese cats are one of my favorite cat breeds. My husband likes them very much as well. He always had one or two as a child. My cat Charcoal is a kind of mixed Siamese breed, that is she is a Snowshoe cat. She is a very vocal cat and so affectionate. She does demand our attention though more than our other two cats

I am allergic to cats, too.

I always thought they purred because they were happy, too, until two years ago when I read an article that said otherwise. It’s really interesting how cats communicate!

Very true! I used to be severely allergic to cats and
I had limited contact with them when I was younger and also got allergy shots to build up my immune system in general. When I was 18 my fiance had an older long-haired cat and it was through exposure to her that I slowly became more immune to cats and thanks to her(Miss Kitty)I am now able to have my own, which I may not of otherwise have been able to if my allergies were still severe. My allergies still have not gone away completely, but they are improved. Now me spending time around dogs, that is another story! We dont always do so well there.

Very interesting article, MOL! I have been a cat-lover all my life but was not able to have cats as a child due to severe allergies(which are much better now)I can actually have three cats of my own even with allergies & asthma. Anyways I always thought that cats purred because they were happy and content, I wasn’t aware of the other reasons. Thanks for sharing this info
