Avoiding Pet Stains
Cat messes are unavoidable, even if your cat regularly uses the litterbox. An accident once in a while is normal. Sometimes cats get sick. Other times, cats miss the litterbox. Whatever the reason, cat messes may leave stains if they are not cleaned up as soon as you discover them. Use these tips from Animal Plannet to help eliminate stains.
To clean urine: Dab with a paper towel to get as much wetness up as you can. Pour club soda over the urine spot, then dab up with a paper towel again. Apply a pet neutralizer so that your cat does not eliminate in the same spot again.
If the stain does not come out, try using a commercial pet stain remover. I have found Resolve for pet stains is a great product for carpets - it’s gets the stain right up and doesn’t leave a bad odor behind.
For solids/escrament: Pick up any solid waste with a paper towel. Dab up any moisture with a paper towel before putting club soda on the spot. Dab up the club soda with another paper towel. Then, apply a pet neutralizing product.
If the stain doesn’t come out, then try a commercial pet stain remover. Resolve pet stain remover is a good product, but I’ve found it doesn’t work as well on escrament as it does on other types of pet stains.
Cat messes are inevitable sometimes, but you can save your carpet by following these instructions for pet stain removal.
