National Feral Cat Day is Tomorrow!
Tomorrow, October 16, 2008 is National Feral Cat Day. The point of the day is to promote humane programs that allow feral and wild cats to remain in their environments, such as the Trap-Neuter-Return program. The Alley Cat Allies started National Feral Cat Day eight years ago in order to protect feral and wild cats.
According to Alley Cat Allies, many shelters around the country round up cats on a regular basis and euthanize them. This is not a humane thing to do, and most Americans do not agree with it. In fact, in a survey conducted by Harris Interactive for the Alley Cat Alliance, 81% of Americans would rather have feral cats live out the rest of their natural lives outside than to capture and kill the cats.
The Alley Cat Alliies asserts Americans need to encourage government to promote humane programs, such as the Trap-Neuter-Return program. Their website lists several events for National Feral Cat Day you can attend. It also lists several ideas and activities you can do if you cannot make it out to an event tomorrow.
