American Humane Association Wants to Get September Recognized As “National Link Awareness Month”
The American Humane Association, an organization dedicated to protecting animals and children from violence is currently trying to get a bill passesed, with the support of U.S. Representative Susan Davis (Calif.-D) to have September, 2008 recognized as “National Link Awareness Month.” The Link is the connection between cruelty to animals and other types of violence, which was initially recognized in 1894.
House Bill 1046 is currently before the House Agriculture and Judiciary Committee with 19 co-sponsors and should be voted on in the near future, according to the American Humane Association.
According to Cat Channel, the main points of the bill are to recognize the connection between domestic violence and animal cruelty on a national level and laws that recognize this connection are important in protecting victims of domestic violence.
I hope the bill gets passed so that both domestic violence victims and their pets will be better protected in the future.
