Carmine and Milita - My Precious Companions

Carmine-Milita-150 Cats are so special. The two cats in the picture on the top of my blog are my two cats, Carmine and Milita. Carmine is an orange tabby, he loves to sit on whatever he can find, play, chase Milita around, sleep on my pillow at night, and look out the window. He’s three years old. Milita is a Siamese/tabby mix. She loves to tease Carmine, sleep up high, perch on a high place and look at the world, play, and look out windows. She will be five years old next month, which is hard to believe!

I’m sure I’ll be sharing a lot more about my cats in this blog as time goes on, but for now, I want to share with you how I got my furry friends.

After I graduated from college in 2004, I decided I was going to get a cat when I moved here to Denver to attend graduate school. I initially went to a local cat shelter and picked out a kitty, she was orange and white and appeared to be very sweet. I spent the summer trying to train her to use the litter box because she had never fully recovered from her declaw surgery, which she had before her previous owners took her back to the shelter. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out, but I was able to find a good home for her, nevertheless.

We also had about ten outdoor cats at our country home the summer I stayed with my dad. After I figured out the other kitty wasn’t going to work for me, my dad suggested I take one of the outside ones. I was hesitant; I didn’t think they knew anything about being indoors or how to use a litter box. However, my dad told me that six of the cats had been indoor cats when they were kittens. So, I took the friendliest cat, even though I thought she was kind of selfish at the time because she never wanted me to pet her brothers or sisters, and instead wanted me to give HER all of the attention!

My heart was broken because I had to give my other kitty away, but I took the new kitty to Colorado with me. I didn’t know if we’d ever bond. A friend of mine named her Milita, and she was one of the only things that kept me sane my first year in a new state. She slept with me every night, followed me around my apartment, and laid on the back of the couch while I read for classes. We managed to form a good bond, and I love her to pieces!

The next summer came and I moved to a new apartment near campus. I decided to get another cat in order to keep Milita company while I was gone at class and at my internship. I thought she probably got lonely being by herself most of the day. So, I went to the Pet Smart adoption center and fell in love with a very sweet orange cat, named Carmine. At the time he was only four months old! I took him out of the cage and knew immediately he was the right cat for me. We seemed to develop a bond right away.

My cats are so precious to me, and I love them dearly. I really look forward to sharing the knowledge I have learned about cats with you, including facts about cat breeds, health, behavior, and more. I will also tell you great stories about cats (including my own), share photographs, and keep you informed about the latest cat news.

I truly hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I know I am going to enjoy writing it!
